Intelligent Yoga

A blend of soothing and strengthening yoga sequences and postures, qi-gong, somatic movement, pranayama and guided meditation.

In these classes we explore our body’s relationship to gravity and space. Using yoga, somatics and qi-gong principles, teachings, postures and sequences, we look at posture and alignment and how to stand, sit, move and breathe intelligently - with ease, understanding and compassion for ourselves.

The classes start with a guided relaxation, somatic experiencing and gentle breathing exercises. Using somatics we free our joint spaces and muscle groups lying, on all fours, kneeling and standing and then we flow through a series of qi-gong and yoga sequences that free the spine, strengthen the body and free the breath.

Each class has a theme or we work with what one or several of us might be needing at that time. We explore balances, traditional yoga postures and finish the class with either a stretch down and/or a restorative posture using bolsters and yoga bricks, yoga blankets and belts.

All the props are provided, you just need to bring your own mat, water and a layer to put on for the final savasana, which usually includes a spiritual reading, pranayama breathing exercise or meditation offering.

These classes are very soothing, strengthening and enable our nervous system to dial down and settle into parasympathetic mode – rest, digest, restore and renew. By the end of the class we feel more settled, connected and revitalised and have re-educated our bodies in how to dial down and discharge pent up stress or survival energy through our bodies and into the earth.

The classes are practised in fully equipped studios with toilets and changing facilities. They are fun, light-hearted and all kinds of variations and modifications are offered so that you can practise to your level and tune in to what you need each time you come.

I also offer immersion days, restorative retreats and teach one-to-one sessions, small groups and I run a weekly session on Tuesdays at 6pm for Cornwall College St Austell as part of their adult education programmes - these sessions have a very specific theme per term and you need to book with them and I am employed by the College independently - https://www.cornwall.ac.uk/courses/yoga-for-healthy-backs/
