About Somatics

The classes are extremely popular and many of students say “life-changing”. As well as providing profound relief from pain, the invitation and permission the somatics approach and movements offer reconnects us to our body and the felt sense.

We can work through, process and discharge old stress and survival energies that keep us stuck, tired and limited and with more flow in our system, we can heal and experience a sense of goodness, wholeness and well-being.

Each class begins with a somatic body scan and somatic experiencing exercises and then we systematically release the muscles, and therein joint spaces, of the feet, legs, hips, pelvis and back and then shoulders, arms, neck, jaw, face and head.

We also explore the breathing body and use various props to release, re-awaken and massage the skin and fascial network of connective tissues.

About Step For Strength

These classes are a huge amount of fun and as well as working out the body, the music and upbeat nature of step really lifts the spirits and gets the cells fizzing. Training shoes and workout clothing essential.

Students can do these classes using a step bench or do exactly the same workout on the floor.

We always start with a thorough warm up then work through different routines that build up and sustain the heart rate while improving coordination and strengthening the legs and arms.

We use hand-weights and there is always a standing legs section which includes squats, lunges and lateral work to build stamina and proprioception.

The last section of the class is based on the floor where we strengthen arms, legs, chest, back and abdominal exercises. We finish with a delicious stretch down.

About Intelligent Yoga

Using yoga, somatics and qi-gong principles and teachings, postures and sequences, we explore how to move intelligently, how to stand, sit, move and breathe with ease, understanding and compassion for ourselves.

The classes start with a guided relaxation, somatic experiencing and gentle breathing exercises. Using somatics, we free our joint spaces and muscle groups, then we flow through a series of qi-gong and yoga sequences that free the spine, strengthen the body and free the breath. We explore balances, traditional yoga postures and finish the class with either a stretch down and/or a restorative posture using bolsters and yoga bricks, yoga blankets and belts.

These classes are very soothing, strengthening and enable our nervous system to dial down and settle into parasympathetic mode – rest, digest, restore and renew.

About Chair Yoga

These seated and standing sessions have all the benefits of a traditional yoga class and somatics class but the postures, stretches and joint care exercises are practised either standing or sitting down.

This class is great way to exercise the brain while maintaining muscle strength and suppleness.

As well as soothing aches and pains by freeing all of our joints areas and tight muscle areas, this class is excellent for those who experience breathing difficulties, COPD, asthma and high blood pressure.

These sessions are a huge amount of fun and offer a great introduction to the principles of yoga, chair yoga can help to relieve joint pain and improve posture and relaxation.

These classes are extremely popular and students normally go for a coffee afterwards so it’s a great way to make new friends and connect with local people.
