Chair Yoga
These seated and standing sessions have all the benefits of a traditional yoga class and somatics class but all the exercises are practised either in either seated on a yoga chair or standing
This class is great way to exercise the brain while maintaining muscle strength and suppleness.
As well as soothing aches and pains by freeing all of our joints areas and tight muscle areas, this class is excellent for those who experience breathing difficulties, COPD, asthma and high blood pressure.
These sessions are a huge amount of fun and offer a great introduction to the principles of yoga, chair yoga can help to relieve joint pain and improve posture and relaxation.
Soothing Soma Yoga
These classes run on a Thursday evening in The Oasis Studio, Lostwithiel. They are a delicious, restful combination of qi gong, somatics, self massage, stretching and restorative yoga to sooth away stress at the end of the week.
This session is a great end of the week stress reliever and extremely helpful for people who are in need of class that is deeply relaxing and restorative, expecially those recovering from illness, working through grief of trauma or seeing a class that helps to release stress and tension.
Somatics
The classes are extremely popular and many of students say “life-changing”. As well as providing profound relief from pain, the somatics approach and sequences reconnects us to our bodies.
Each class begins with a somatic body scan and somatic experiencing exercises and then we systematically release the muscles, and therein joint spaces, of the feet, legs, hips, pelvis and back and then shoulders, arms, neck, jaw, face and head.
In these sessions we can also subtly work through, process and discharge old stress and survival energies that can leave us feeling stuck, tired and limited. With more connection and a sense of flow in our system, we can heal and experience a sense of goodness, wholeness and well-being.
Aerobics & weights
These upbeat, energising and fat burning classes are lots of fun and taught to music. Perfect for people who want to let off a bit of steam, move to a beat and burn calories.
We build and work up through different cardio standing strengh sequences with or with out a step and finish off with handweights and kettle bells to build muscle strength and tone
These sessions are great for people who are looking for a class to burn calories, run on Thursday mornings from 9.10am to 10.20am in the Oasis Studio Lostwithiel. Please book as the classes get busy and equipment is limited.
Soma Yoga for Strength
Using yoga, somatics and qi-gong postures and sequences and postures we revitalise the brain body connection and strengthen and invigorate tired muscles while calming the autonomic nervous system and quieting the mind
The classes start with a guided relaxation, somatic experiencing and gentle breathing exercises. Using somatics, we free our joint spaces and muscle groups, then we flow through a series of qi-gong and yoga sequences that free the spine, strengthen the body and free the breath. We explore balances, traditional yoga postures and finish the class with either a stretch down and/or a restorative posture using bolsters and yoga bricks, yoga blankets and belts.
These classes are very soothing, strengthening and enable our nervous system to dial down and settle into parasympathetic mode – rest, digest, restore and renew.
Voice work and singing
If you are interesting in developing your voice or singing I run two singing groups and have worked as a one to one vocal coach and singing teacher for 15 years.
When I moved to Cornwall in 2002, I was wowed by all of the community singing groups, shanty and shout sessions and the wonderful pub and street singing that went on throughout Cornwall at Christmas time. I was lucky enough to sing with choir leader and voice worker extraordinaire Vicky Abbott and then began my own group, Lost in Song, in 2006.
Since then I have run and been part of a number of singing groups and directed large scale singing projects including the Glad Sounds of Christmas, Sing Along the River and Sing Along Cornwall.
